SABnzbd for OS X

SABnzbd 0.4.0 final by rAf!

From the sabnzbd.org website:

Thanks to our new team member rAf, we can now offer a native OSX app in the form of a DMG download.

The forum will support this distribution too.

Great news! rAf, good luck with this and future builds - keep up the great quality. I won’t be building or releasing any more builds. Head over the the sabnzbd.org website to get the latest and greatest!

Everyone who contributed to this project: thank you! Great working with all of you. Over 25.000 sabnzbd for OS X downloads. Superb! And best of all: rAf is continuing the OS X builds.

Good luck and best wishes to the entire SABnzbd.org team!

SABnzbd-0.4.0 Beta

The release of SABnzbd-0.4.0 Beta is on hold till tomorrow. Check the sabnzbd forums. Since I’m very busy with other things (new job etc.), I won’t be building a beta release. My guess is RaF will release a beta build…but ofcourse I’m not sure ’bout that.

Roll your own; how to build SABnzbd for OS X. Part II, the sourcecode

Hi all,

This is a followup on Roll your own; how to build SABnzbd for OS X. Part I, the prerequisites. As promised, I hereby release the sourcecode to SABnzbd for OS X. It’s the full source code, not a diff to the original source. I could have released a diff, if I only knew how hahaha :) Anyways, on with the post.

Download the SABnzbd for OS X 0.3.0 source code.

If you do a diff -r against the original SABnzbdPlus 0.3.0 you’ll notice the very few changes needed to build. I had to include some libs and put the SABnzbd engine in its own thread. Furthermore, there is a tiny invisible nib which communicates with the front-end (shutdown e.a.). For the other changes, check the diff.

unzip, enter the subdir and build using

python setup.py py2app

After the buildprocess has finished, you’ll find your new .app in the subdir /dist

enjoy!

SABnzbdGUI released

PW Software Productions has developed a great GUI for SABnzbd for OS X. From the website:

As many people have requested for a decent Mac OS X GUI for SABnzbd I have been developing one.

Today, after some delay SABnzbdGUI has been released! Remember this is a first beta. I wasn’t able to test the remote functionality, but this should work. I also wasn’t able to test this on Tiger, but it should also work.

Check it out!

it’s here! SABnzbd 0.3.0 final for OS X

Of course, check the release announcement by ShyPike: http://sourceforge.net/forum/forum.php?thread_id=1915017&forum_id=744572

A few notes.

  1. This build was made on the 19th of januari 11:18am CET and only tested on my intel Mac. Please test this release and post your findings in the comments.
  2. RSS should be working… Can someone test this for me? Thanks!
  3. The new icon is still missing. I need a higher resolution png image (at least 128×128px but preferably 512×512). Can someone supply this?

Enjoy and thank you for using SABnzbd+ for OSX!

The new todo-list

Ola! The current version (0.3.0rc3) seems to be working pretty ok for most people. Remember to disable logging in the ini file (~/.sabnzbd/sabnzbd.ini) if you’re having trouble with the syslog! The new todo-list! :)

  • Build OS X preferences window; including the “open browser” & “disable logging” options.
  • Include an option to disable the icon in the dock. Next to that include an option to show the icon in the menu bar.
  • Include options like ‘open sabnzbd in browser’ and ‘quit sabnzbd’ in right-click icon menu.
  • fix e-mail
  • fix rss

New OS X release - 0.3.0rc3

Hi all,

Because of all the exciting new features in the new SABnzbdPlus release and because of the hard work of the SABnzbdPlus team, I decided to create a new OS X release! This OS X release is source-code compatible with the SABnzbdPlus 0.3.0rc3 release. Check the download section on the right –>

BEWARE: I only tested this release on my Powerbook G4 (17th december, 22:00 CET). Please post your findings in the comments. Read the comments if you’re not certain if you should grab this release.

What new in this release (from the CHANGELOG):
Check the changelog by Shypike

What’s new for this OS X version:
- The return of the mini app! ;-) Because SABnzbdPlus features a browser auto-launch, the tiny “I’m running so you can close me” window is gone.
- unicode fixes so your files containing diacritics (umlaut, accent acute e.d.) are decoded without errors.
- A default install has almost no logging enabled (if you need it, you can turn it on).

To use the new release, it’s best to remove your old setting. You can check whether or not you have to “old settings” by doing a:

ls -latr ~/.sabnzbd

When you get a “No such file or directory”, you’re ready to go. When you get a directory listing, you have old settings. Check if you have important files there - backup those - and do a (this will delete everything in that directory!):

rm -rf ~/.sabnzbd/

and launch the new SABnzbdPlus!

While using this OS X version, please check the following issues:

- The logging to console.log is minimal;
- No excessive use of system resources;
- Downloads complete correct, PAR2 checking and RAR-ing is OK;
- The mini-.app is running correctly;
- The app successfully launches a initial browser to the sabnzbd web-interface.

Not tested yet:

- Email
- RSS functionality

Thank you for using SABnzbdPlus 0.3.0rc3 for OS X!
